Continuing our 90th anniversary celebrations, Glyndebourne reflects on its rich history of collaboration and design, having worked with some of the leading artists and designers of their generation. From Then to Now: 90 Years of Glyndebourne Posters presents exciting, newly commissioned posters by 13 artists responding to our 2024 Festival, alongside rarely seen posters from our archive, spanning our inception in 1934 through to 2023.
Archive highlights include David Hockney’s 1995 Festival poster, Maurice Sendak’s Where the Wild Things Are / Higglety Pigglety Pop! design for the 1984 Glyndebourne Touring Opera and our stunning 75th Anniversary poster. Commissioned artists include: Amy Beager, Rana Begum, Pablo Bronstein, Morag Caister, Michael Craig-Martin, Antony Gormley, Maggi Hambling, Chris Ofili, Vicken Parsons, Fiona Rae, Conrad Shawcross and Edmund de Waal. They have all responded to Glyndebourne’s Festival 2024 repertoire, each selecting one production to promote. As part of the exhibition, we have included a new poster of Howard Hodgkin’s 1998 Glyndebourne Festival Programme Book cover design, which marks Glyndebourne’s first commission of a contemporary artist for the Programme Book.
Each poster is a limited run of 150 and are printed on Monte Carlo 300gsm watercolour paper. All posters will be exclusively available from the Glyndebourne Shop.
