Hans Hofmann at the Bruce Museum

I would like to let you know about a very special opportunity happening at the Bruce next week.

On Thursday evening, June 25, Dr. Mary McLeod, our final guest lecturer in the 2015 Bob and Pam Goergen Lecture Series, will present:

Hans Hofmann and José Luis Sert: An Experiment in Artistic Collaboration

Dr. McLeod will discuss Hans Hofmann's collaboration with the architects José Luis Sert and Paul Lester Wiener on the design of a new civic center for Chimbote, Peru, in 1950. Artist and architects worked together to create a vibrant new meeting place for both people and the arts, and the story of their collaboration is riveting.

A professor of architecture at Columbia University, Dr. McLeod has written extensively on the history and theory of twentieth-century architecture. Her talk on Thursday evening is sure to add insight into our exploration of Hans Hofmann's public mural projects, and the artist's unique relationship with art and architecture.
