By the title “Reflections”, the Ludwig Museum will present around 80 works by artists from the collection of the National-Bank Essen from June 29th to September 1st, 2024.
Over several decades, the National Bank in Essen has built up a high-quality collection, which it now presents in museums with selected items. The reason for this was the bank’s 100th anniversary in 2021, which feels particularly connected to the region and its culture.
The special focus of the collection is on the cultural area of the Ruhr area, on artists from North Rhine-Westphalia and the immediate surroundings of the Düsseldorf Art Academy, from which numerous artists achieved international reputation. Among them are the respective rectors Markus Lüpertz and Anthony Cragg, but also former and current professors such as Katharina Grosse, Konrad Klapheck, Imi Knoebel, Klaus Rinke and Katharina Sieverding.
Further artistic positions will be shown with works by Siegfried Anzinger, Stephan Balkenhohl, Albert Oehlen, Bernd and Hilla Becher, Franz Erhard Walther, Peter Bömmels, Paco Knöller, A. R. Penck and Peter Brüning. Works by Hede Bühl, David Czupryn, Chris Succo, Richard Deacon, Ulrich Erben, Bernd Finkeldei, Leunora Salihu, Pia Fries and Cornelius Völker are also on display.
“Reflections” presents a comprehensive cross-section of the collection, revealing the diversity and range of the artists represented and their artistic practice. Among others, the works of Susan Hefuna, Bernd Koberling, Karl Horst Hödicke and Candida Höfer will be presented in a new context. Following an initial presentation at the Museum Küppersmühle, Duisburg, a newly conceived second museum presentation is now taking place in Germany.
The exhibition is thanks to the collaboration with the National Bank Essen and is significantly supported by the Foundation for Art and Culture, Bonn.
