NEW YORK, NEW YORK – AMERINGER | McENERY | YOHE is pleased to announce an exhibition of new paintings on paper by Monique van Genderen. The exhibition will open on 17 March and will remain on view through 16 April 2016. A public reception for the artist will be held on Thursday 17 March from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. The exhibition is accompanied by a fully illustrated publication with an essay by Fabienne Eggelhöfer.

Working on paper in the same manner as her work on canvas, the artist continues her alchemic reactions with materials, in this case egg tempura and wax on paper, maintaining a material and familial relationship to her ceramic works. Her works are the result of a confluence of reactions that mix in an odd way - like thinking and talking about the Egg Paintings and the Oxidation Paintings of Andy Warhol in the same breath. Works that represent the transformation of something base and everyday into something precious. Works that strip all psychology from the picture plane with their literal process that can and can’t be located in the painting. While thinking about eggs and oxidation, van Genderen explores the dualities of expressionism and conceptualism, giving agency to the brushstroke to act as carrier and character for this referential layering.

MONIQUE VAN GENDEREN (b. in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada) received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California at San Diego and her Master of Fine Arts degree from the California Institute of the Arts in Valencia, California.

Monique van Genderen is currently an Assistant Professor at University of California, San Diego and splits her time between San Diego and Los Angeles, CA.
